What are refractory materials?
A refractory material is a material that maintains its strength at high temperatures.
The primary use of these materials is in the commercial production of steel, aluminium, glass, tiles, blast furnaces, etc. These industries operate at the higher end of the temperature range.
The temperature range that a wood-fired oven operates at is considered to be at the lower end of the heat scale in the refractory world, which is divided into 3 - low, medium and high. The products that we use are all certified, and are zoned in the medium range. These have a working temperature of 1400 degrees celsius, and a maximum of 1700. Which means you will be operating the oven at around 40-50% of the materials capabilities. That is where you get your long life!
